VMware AppVolume Issue

$

8 July 2019

Using AppVolume 2.17

When trying to install Apps on the Provisioning VM (Win 10), Every installation goes wrong (Can't install any software).

I followed the installation guide so everything is perfect (compatibility with horizon, versions, steps, prerequisites,..........)

every time I tried to install software after entering the provisioning VM to provisioning mode, I got (you don't have permission to this location {C://program files/..........}

I tried to use several versions (2.1x) of AppVolumes but still same issue.

Update: 31 July 2019

I re-deployed the solution again using AppVolumes 2.15 which is compatible with Horizon 7.8.
Also, using Win Server 2012 R2 as an AppVolumes Manager and Win 10 version 1803 as a Provisioning VM which is compatible with AppVolumes 2.15

Unfortunately, I got the same issue ( can't install any software after the provisioning VM be in the provisioning mode).
at the normal state (when The provisioning VM before entering provisioning mode), I can install any software normally.
but once I created the AppStack from AppVolumes Manager and enter the provisioning VM in Provisioning mode, I can't install any software.

ESXi Host Decommision Question-Remove from Inventory or more involved?

One of our locations is closing down that has only 2 hosts. Would like to remove hosts from vcenter in a graceful fashion prior to the location going dark. We are not re-purposing the equipment anywhere else.  If i 'Remove From Inventory' within vsphere, is there any additional cleanup from a vsphere perspective that needs to occur? Mainly concerned about datastores, distributed switches, etc. I have retired my fair share of hosts in the past in which you have to remove the host from distributed switch, detach from storage and the other processes that occur hence my question.

Hi there, I am starting planning to upgrade to vCenter 6.7

Current Environment:

2x vCenter server 6.0 U3 (On Windows Server)

2x External PSC Appliance 6.0 U3

2x Update Manager servers

End goal is to be latest vesrion of vSphere 6.7 all in one appliance, reading through the upgrade/migartion documentaiton it looks like I need to follow this order, can anyone whos had to upgrade confirm this is correct please?

Upgrade External PSC Appliances to 6.7

Migrate vCenter Servers(Windows) to 6.7 Appliances

Migrate Update Manager to the 6.7 vCenter Appliances

After upgrades are complete I can converge vCenter Server with external PSC to vCenter with Embedded PSC

Thanks in Advance

What is best practice for large disks?

Hi,

We are looking to setup a video archival volume and are purchasing a new SAN for purpose (iSCSI).

I understand the maximum virtual disk size is 62TB but the usable capacity on the SAN will be about 80TB.

I'm wondering how to best set things up to fully utilize the SAN and allow any future expansion.

Do I provision multiple LUNs and present to vSphere?

Each LUN would have a datastore which would then have a single virtual disk.

Windows would then see two disks which would then be combined into a single volume with mount points or Storage Spaces.

or

Do I present a single storage LUN to the virtual operating system and bypass vSphere?

Looking for any suggestions from real world experience.

Thanks

Damien

I have a cluter including a few hosts(version Esxi 6.5) .

In one host of cluter ,I have found that messages "sfcb-vmware_raw{XXXXX]" show  in /var/log/syslog.log repeatly. Also ,files such as localcli-zdump.000,sfcb_vmware_bas-zdump.00X and sfcb_vmware_raw-zdump.00X having been generated under /var/core.

Who knows what happen? Is it a bug?

Too many concurrent connections to vcenter

$

Hi All,

We have three different backup applications in our environment. As of late backups are failing "due to too may concurrent connections to vCenter" I need to find a solution to this problem and begin the process of consolidating backup products. My immediate thought was to load balance vCenter but i'm not sure what the best practice is. Can I deploy another vCenter in HA and then use Netscalers to load balance the TCP connections? Does it have to be in an HA configuration?

If there are better immediate solutions out there please let me know!
Thanks!

vCenter Migration from 5.5 to 6.5

Hi All,

I would like to gather information on which is the best way to migrate vCenter Windows 5.5 to VCSA 6.5.

Our challenge is that the setup is using dvswitch 5.5.

And I saw a KB that migrating dvswitch from a new version may result downtime that,s why we are trying to minimize or much better eliminate that concern especially this is production environment.

Upgrade a vSphere Distributed Switch to a Later Version

Will using vCenter migration tool automatically upgrades the dvswitch version from 5.5 to 6.5?

Upgrading 6.5 Linked vCenters

$

Hi,

We have 2 vCenters version 6.5 that are in linked mode. The vCenters are in 2 different physical locations. There is 1 external PSC at 1 location that both vCenters are registered with.

We are trying to get clarity on what would be the ideal end solution if upgrading to 6.7? We were thinking first deploying an additional 6.5 external PSC to the physical site without a PSC. Same SSO domain as existing PSC, but a different SSO Site name. Then, first upgrade the 2 PSCs to 6.7. Then upgrade the 2 vCenters to 6.7. Re-configure the vCenter at the physical site with the newly deployed PSC to point at the newly deployed PSC at that same physical site. Converge each external PSC into an embedded PSC with each of their associated vCenters.

However, it seems when looking at vSphere 6.7 supported and deprecated typologies that the final topology described above would not be supported in 6.7?

Any suggestions on the best, supported way to approach this would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mark

vCenter 6.7U3 Dynamic DNS issue with vCenter HA (VCHA) - duplicate DNS records creating connectivity issues

$

Now that vCenter 6.7U3 enables Dynamic DNS updates by default, it seems there is a bug that causes the vCenter HA (VCHA) IP address (on the 2nd NIC) to be registered to DNS as a second IP address for the vCenter server.  This causes connectivity issues because end-users trying to connect to the vCenter interface via FQDN end up with 2 IP addresses, one of which most likely is not going to work (i.e. the VCHA IP address on the 2nd NIC, which likely does not have a default gateway).  I was able to reproduce this bug in several different environments.  One work-around is to disable vCenter HA entirely.  This is not a very good work-around for customers that wish to have vCenter high availability.  Does anyone know any other work-arounds, such as disabling dynamic DNS on the VCHA NIC, or disabling Dynamic DNS globally on the vCenter server?  Also, does anyone from VMware know whether this bug will be fixed soon?

Upgrade MS 2008r Server to 2019 on a VMWare Server

Hi Im new on this, never worked with VMWare so bare with me.

Since the guy that can do this is to occupied with other things (they where 4 now hes alone) and I'm more Onsite-Technician I want to do my best to help him with things.

Today we have 3 VMWare Servers and on them we have a lot of virtual servers (MS 2008 mostly).

What I want to do is is copy one of the 2008r servers and then upgrade that one and see what will go wrong so we don't do it on a "live" server.

I now that we first need to upgrade from 2008r to 2012 and then to 2019.

Or is it easiest to install a fresh MS 2019 server and then migrate, for example I talking about a domain server?

Best Regards

Basically what the title says. Anyone have any basic code/workflow examples to help out?

Cannot assign user to desktop - 'User already assigned to a desktop in Pool ...' error

Hi All,

We have a H6 dedicated machine desktop pool with a weird bug. I've spun up an additional VM for a user, when I try to assign the username to the VM is says:

The user Monitoring Console 37 cannot be assigned the selected machine because this user has already been assigned ownership of a machine in the desktop pool.

I can see there are no desktops assignments in the view console, and nothing in the Pool entitlements for that username. No idea why it's not allowing the assignment? Presumably I need a command to check the database for this or PowerCLI to query desktop assignments, can anybody advise?

Thanks

Dave

How to get vRA Compute Cluster Location Tag?

I am having hard time to find an API to list location tags of all Compute clusters that is seen in vRA Infrstructure--> Compute Clusters.  Tried vRA 7.3 API, https://docs.vmware.com/en/vRealize-Automation/7.3/vrealize-automation-73-programming-guide.pdf , could not find, all it has is reservations that list compute cluster but no other details about compute cluster itself.  Any idea where I can find the API to list all compute cluster objects and the properties of each object that has location in it?  For reference here what I am trying to list.

[vRA 8.0] Error using ABX extensibility

$

Hello the community.

I'm currently trying to use the new ABX functionality in vRA 8.0 to do a simple thing, rename the VM before the provisioning.

First of all I create a new action based on the embedded script (I tried both Python and JS versions of the script)

Then I create a new subscription based on the topic compute.allocation.pre (which I guess is the right topic to rename a resource)

Finally I ask for a test blueprint to be provisioned. I can see that the ABX action is called in the "Action Runs".

But the blueprint systematically failed with the error : "Extensibility triggered task failure: Extensibility error for topic compute.allocation.pre: [10040] Image creation KJob is NOT completed!"

Does anyone succeed to deploy a VM customizing the name ?

Maybe I'm using the wrong way, but there is a serious lack of documentation about extensibility capacities, which if for me one of the most important part of vRA.

Thanks for your help !

Ho do I remove vRealize Operations manager from my 6.7 vCenter? I tried to upgrade to 8.0 and realize it will just be easier to install a new 8.0 appliance.

Do i just take it offline and then delete the appliance? I cant find any documentation on how to do this.

Hello, I ran into an odd issue today. After rebooting the host I get VMware Hypervisor Recovery with a line under it (edge to edge) and no options, just a blank screen. After a few minutes, the server reboots and I am back to the same screen. Any help would be appreciated.
