VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-10719125-HPE-Gen9plus-650.U2.10.4.0.29-Apr2019-depot.zip

※コマンド

Good Morning,

At the moment i am trying to resolve an issue with the SDDC manager dashboard (SDDC 3.7.2).

Far as i can tell everything is up, i can ping the host and it is online.

However i either get Nginx 403 error, OR error timeout.

This all started when we had some licensing issues for our cloud foundation install.

Any help would be appreciated.

VMware ESXI 6.7 Serial Port problem with Ziton

Dear all,

Bear with me, I am quite new to ESXI, but not new to virtualisation or computers.

I have a Ziton fire panel which is connected to a PC via an RS-485 serial link. This was running on my standard PC with Win 2012 using XP on a VMware player VM connected via an RS-485 converter to Com1 Prior to upgrading my server with no issues at all.

However, on my new Dell R510 which has only 1 com port running ESXI 6.7 I am expirencing some weird issues. When the XP VM is powered up, the comms link starts, then within a few seconds it stops responding. (this is shown visually on the program) DATA is passing through to the panel, then within a minute, it goes into fault. reboot, reset same. All of the serial options have been eliminated, including checking the settings against the host, I tried altering the buffers in the VM for the Com port, changed the com port number and speeded up and slowed down the baud rate but no luck there.

I have even started fresh with a new VM and downgraded it to Win2k (which is what the panel software was designed for) and this provided some relief as the panel remained connected and DATA passed through, but when I tried to download some live DATA via Maestro, nothing happens, it just times out and errors saying there is no comms betweed the com port and the panel. (I proved this by looking and there were no comms lights in the panel)

I have also tried the serial0.tryNoRxLoss = "TRUE" option in the config file, but this stops comms altogether. and it still won't get rid of serial0:overrun in the logs. I don't know where to look to find out why there is a delay on the comms between the host and the VM, as on my other PC it worked fine.

I do have a USB serial adapter, but have read that these won't work with ESXI 6.7 is this correct? Also, how do you change the buffer settings for the COM port within ESXI host configuration? (Specifically turning the FIFO buffers on and off) as this maybe why there is a delay in the comms getting out of the host and back again.

Thank you for helping.

Power usage and cpu load of server export to csv

I am supporting a Green IT pilot with a lot of big companies in The Netherlands.

We want to investigate impact of power setting on servers to look for baseline and changes when altering BIOS and power settings in vSphere.

Is there anyone here that likes to help out and make a script that takes a measurement every 15 minutes that can run for a week and puts the output into a csv file.

We like to capture 4 things in the output file

  • Timestamp
  • Hostname
  • Total power usage of the host at timestamp
  • Total CPU load in % of the host.

Who can help us out here and provide a working example that we can share with the customers so they can alter it to their environment and run it.

Along with easy stept to get the script running and the requirements for it.

Thanks in advance to help and make the world a bit greener.

VMware ESXi 6.7 Driver for Mellanox Technologies MT27500/MT27520 Family

For Mellanox ethernet controller ConnectX-3/ConnectX-3, VMware Knowledge Base describes to use driver "nmlx4_en 3.16.11.10 (6.5 driver) or new releases (6.7 driver)".

The nmlx4_en 3.16.11.10 release is for 6.5 only and can be found at https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=DT-ESXI65-MELLANOX-NMLX4-EN-3161110&productId=614

According https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=io&details=1&partner=55&releases=485&page=8&display_interval=10&sortColumn=Partner&sortOrder=Asc the MT27500 Family is builtin supported with ESXi 6.7U3 (with a newer release nmlx4_en version 3.17.13.1-1vmw).

As there is no standalone ESXi 6.7 driver, which release for "or new releases (6.7 driver)" is officially supported for ESXi 6.7 non-U3 releases?

Supermicro Box with a MegaRaid 9361-8i RAID Controller 12Gb/s 2GB Cache, with a mixture of SAS and SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm disks. Plenty of memory and 2 multicore CPU's.

Disks are in a RAID0 Config, created a Datastore using the entire contents of the disks, try to subsequently upload a 5GB iso file to the new Datastore, copying at less that 10MB/s over a 1Gb/s Ethernet network.

Completely unusable, as far as i can see this LSI MegaRAID card IS on the VMWare HCL.

Any ideas whatsoever?

Get-Log in cluster with VMCrypt VMs

$

We enabled vmcrypt for a few VMs in our 6.7 vsphere environment months ago and thought no more of it.  Alas it seems that as these VMs have moved around the cluster "Host Encryption Mode" is being turned on (as expected I guess).  This seems to break the ability to use PowerCLI to dump out log bundles.

I am loathe to have to get my support team to login as root to each host, run vm-support and then scp them off to a jump box.

Is there a method to pass the same "Password" parameter that teh GUI shows to "Get-Log -Bundle -VMHost $vmhost"?  I have had a poke around the API Explorer and cant see a method in there either so am guessing it is a host sepcific thing?

The alternative of the GUI may work but this seems to struggle under large log requests.

Problems after install security patch ESXi670-201912001 in ESX cluster

Hi,

After installing the security patch (ESXi670-201912001) in all our ESXs that are part of a cluster, we have had network problems (timeouts, lost connections) and even had error alarms on the hosts.

The new patch came with a new version of the VMWareTools, so we have installed them on some of our virtual machines.

To try to solve the problem we are considering going back to the pre-patch  ESX SW version, but we are concerned that there is some kind of compatibility problem between the new VMWareTools and the ESXs version.

Would there be a problem with this?

Has anyone else had problems after installing the patch (ESXi670-201912001)?

Thanks

"writable_type=" entry in snapvol.cfg

$

I have noticed that in recent App Volumes versions a "writable_type" variable has been added to the snapvol.cfg config with a possble value of "profile" or "uia".

Is this a mandatory variable, and what does this variable do? What are the possible implications when this variable is missing or falsely configured?

I am using an snapvol.cfg file from an older version in several writable volumes, but this variable is not present in the snapvol.cfg files on those volumes.

Updated: working config! How to keep the writable volume as clean as possible?

Update: i have renamed this post to better represent the content.

All our users have 1 Writable Volume for OST and Search storage and a few Appstacks.

The Writable Volume is configured (snapvol.cfg) with the following entry:

#virtualize=\

Registry virtualization has been removed.

And the rest is the default snapvol.cfg + extra exclusions for virusscanner.

And using UEM/DEM we configured the OST to be placed on the writable volume.

This way we thought it would not virtualize the complete disk and only virtualize the paths we want, and it looked like this was working fine. Till now...

We now see stuff appearing inside the writable volume. Partly it's my fault not picking this up before. I wasn't looking at the right locations when testing this setup in our test environment and i thought everything was working as planned.

Our usecase is very simple. Writable Volume is used to store the OST and Search database and nothing else. The user profile part is managed using UEM/DEM.

Thats part 1 of the challenge we are facing; "How do we realize this usecase?" We thought we had this covered, but is seems we didn't.

Part 2 is that i need some more info on the relationship between Appstacks and Writable Volumes.

I did some testing with the following snapvol.cfg for my writable volume:

exclude_path=\ProgramData\

exclude_path=\Users\

exclude_path=\Windows\

exclude_path=\Program Files (x86)\

exclude_path=\Program Files\

When i use this snapvol.cfg for my writable vol and attach one or more appstacks as well, this isn't functioning like i was expecting.

I see that the folder structure from the appstack is visible in my file system, but the data is not accessible. That makes me think the processing of the appstack is influenced by the configuration of the writable volume. But both the appstacks and the writable volumes have there own snapvol.cfg. So that made me believe they are processed independently. My testing is indicating otherwise.

Can someone clearify this behaviour?

And maybe help me to correct our setup so it complies with our usecase; "Writable Volume is used to store the OST and Search database and nothing else"?

Consider above scenario and the management pack limitation as 10 ms latency .

I want  to monitor 4 component in one vrops so all are with the Different geo-locatio and the connected via WAN.

In above case will configure 4 different remote controller with component and in same location will help to reduce latency?

can you please suggest best practice handle this scenario while developing management pack.

Can you please explain how remote collector work ?

Device/Credential Guard error on Windows 10 Home

$

I recently upgraded to the latest version of VMware Workstation (14.1.1) and am now encountering the following problem when trying to launch VM's that worked fine previously.

"VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details."

Problem is that I'm running Windows 10 Home and the Device/Credential Guard is not a feature of that version - it's in Windows 10 Enterprise.

VMware Workstation version: 14.1.1 build 7528167

Windows 10 version:  Windows 10 Home - Version 1083 (build 17115.1)

As mentioned previously the VM's worked fine on the previous version of Workstation 14 on Windows 10 Home. The suggestions to turn off Device/Credential Guard for Windows 10 all relate to the Enterprise version and Hyper-V, which doesn't run on the Home version so the settings to change don't exist.

Appreciate any assistance or suggestions to resolve my problem.

Finding VM disk larger than 7 TB

Hi all,

We are using vRops 7.5 and I received a request to find all VM's within our environment with disks larger than 7 TB. I have tried to figure this out, but I'm only able to find disks C: and D: larger than a specific size in Guest File System| C:\Partition Capacity. I have used Instance Break down but I'm not able to find a solution to view this from all other disks than C: and D:.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated

Is it even possible ???

Cloud Builder Maximum Hosts

Has anyone tried to deploy more than 4 hosts via Cloud Builder bringup?  Do we know how many hosts VCF Cloud Builder supports?  I know you can do 4 hosts and then once SDDC Manager is online you can add to the mgmt domain via SDDC Manager Commission host workflows, but was curious what the true supported number is in UI/JSON for Cloud Builder.
