Random screen flicker with Win 10 LTSC 2019. Anyone else using the version experiencing the issue?

I love using LTSB for the majority of my Horizon environment and would like to start using LTSC.  Problem I'm having is the screen will randomly flicker upon startup.  Will happen on the parent image and in a Horizon session.  Can see the desktop but the screen flickers nonstop and can't click anything.  A restart resolves 90% of the time but I don't want to use it in production. 

 

VMware Support has told me its a known issue and the workaround is to use a different version of Windows 10.  Kind of a bummer being a big fan of these long term servicing editions of Win10 and just wondering if anyone else is using LTSC and not having this issue?  Or if anyone has found a work around?  Currently on vSphere 6.7u3 and Horizon 7.8 with VMware Tools 10.3.10.

ESXi 6.0 and Emulex LPe11000 (possibly other Emulex cards that aren't working oob)

I'm posting this so others might not have to spend hours on the line with support figuring this out.

My environment is older and has the Emulex LPe11000 hba cards.  This card isn't discovered oob.

Obviously a problem right.  After spending hours on the phone with VMWare support they pointed me to Emulex.

The issue really is that some of VMWare's support personnel don't know where they keep all the VIB files for their OS.

I was able to find the attached VIB here.  Import this and apply it and your Emulex card will start working and you can take your hosts up to ESXi 6.

No sound on virtual machines

VMware® Workstation 15 Pro 15.5.0 build-14665864. There are some virtual machines with Windows and Linux. No sound on Linux machines.

Log error:

vcpu-1| I125: Msg_Post: Warning

Hallo zusammen,

ich bin neu in dieser Community und habe bereits erfolglos versucht über die Suche eine Lösung zu finden.

Nachdem ich gestern auf einer Virtuellen Maschine die VMWare Tools nachinstallieren wollte, und dabei die Fehlermeldung erhalten habe, das die vmwareTools iso nicht gemountet  werden kann, habe ich nachgesehen,m was dort los ist. Hierbei ist mir aufgefallen, das im Verzeichnis VMFS/Volumes viel zu wenig  Volumes angezeigt werden. sämtliche Volumes der Bootdisk (SD-Card) fehlen.

 

Viele Tests, die ich mithilfe des Forums durchführen konnte, erwecken den Eindruck, als sei die SD-Karte nicht mehr vorhanden. Da der Server sonst aber noch problemlos läuft, traue ich mich nicht ihn neu zu starten, weil ich dann befürchte, das er nicht wieder hoch fährt. Der Versuch z.B. mit dieser Anleitung:  VMware Knowledge Base den Anfang und das Ende der VFMS-Partition zu finden brachte folgendes Ergebnis:

Ist es möglich, das die SDCard hardwaremäßig getrennt wurde und bei einem Neustart wieder eingebunden wird oder ist sie doch eher defekt? Gibt es Möglichkeiten genauer zu testen ob die SDCard noch in Ordnung ist, bzw. die Partitionen darauf?

 

Der Server ist unser Produktiv-Server. Die Datastores, die die Virtuellen Maschinen beherbergen sind in einwandfreiem Zustand. Der Serer ist ein HP ProliantDL385 Gen 10, der gerade einmal ein 3/4 Jahr alt ist. Von daher sollte die SDCard noch nicht defekt sein.

Newbie question - retired old ESXi hosts now can't see SAN

Hi all, I am still quite new to VM. We had our old VM environment replaced with Hyper con. We want to keep back some of the old kit for testing and training.

 

We did have 3 hosts and 2 SANs. We decommissioned two of the hosts and left the 1st host in a LAB cluster which can be managed from vcenter.

 

The other day I logged into Vcenter, zapped the old VMs from the old SANs and did a tidy up, all good. I then put the old two hosts (not part of vcenter) into maintenance and shut them down. I did this by hitting the IPs of each host.

 

Today it seems I cannot log into the SANs (Dell Equalogic) and in Vcenter its shown as unavailable. When I try and log into Equallogic it says unable to contact server, read only and then shows no info.

 

Could it be the SANs are talking via the old hosts? Do I need to power up the old hosts in order to detach the SANs from the old hosts? Or could this be physical cabling issue?

Terraform - vcloud director org - policy leases

Hi there,

 

I'm using terraform to create a vcloud org - vdc - org network and vapps in my lab.

 

I've noticed a few settings missing however and was wondering if it's still possible to apply them somehow.

 

For example, when creating a new org there are no arguments supporting the configuration of Org policy leases, such as maximum runtime lease, maximum storage lease.

Repeated Datastore Disconnection Every 23 minutes

We are troubleshooting an issue where our VMs are hanging for 5-10 seconds every time our datastores disconnect and reconnect.

The load on the server is minimal with a little bit of I/O. The disconnections happen every 23 minutes whether there is a lot of IO or not.

 

There are three datastores. If all guest VMs are powered off except for one VM which only has VMDK files on ONE datastore, the controller will still show large IO spikes, however it may not fully reset all datastores. During business hours or at night during backups where there is constant RW operations going on, the datastores will always reset and come back. We are receiving some application errors due to this in one of our databases.

  • PERC H730P Adapter (Embedded)
  • Firmware: 25.5.6.0009 (Latest)
  • 4 x 2TB 7.2k RAID 6
  • 2 x 200GB SSD RAID 1
  • 2 x 600GB 15k RAID 1
  • All volumes have Read-Ahead and Write-Back enabled

 

ESXi 6.7.0 Update 3 Build-14320388 (A00)

  • No snapshots in place
  • Driver version 7.708.07.00-3vmw (original driver)
  • Driver version 7.710.07.00-1OEM.670.0.0.8169922 (*)
  • VMFS3.UseATSForHBOnVMFS5 is set to default (1). We tried setting value to (0) with no improvement.

* This driver is supported only on Dell PowerEdge Servers R6525, C6525, R6515 and R7515

* After contacting Dell, they recommended installing the above driver to test as the changelog indicated it addressed my symptoms. No improvement, however

* SCGCQ02033302 Resolves issue in which non-RAID drives may not be listed during OS installation or in vSphere.

* SCGCQ02189085 Fixed an issue that could cause an IO timeout and controller reset under certain workloads.

 

As mentioned above, this happens EVERY 23 minutes.

 

If anyone is able to offer assistance I would be forever grateful.

Insufficient vSphere HA failover resources

I have a cluster consisting of two ESXi hosts. These are new HPE DL380 servers

  • 2CPUs at 2.60GHz with 32 cores each for a total of 64 logical processors
  • 384GB of RAM
  • Running ESXi 6.7 Update 3

 

I have DRS, HA, and Admission Control enabled, settings shown below

Below is the CPU and memory usage on each host. As you can see I am using very little CPU or memory on either host

I just tried putting one of these hosts into Maintenance Mode and am getting the message "Insufficient vSphere HA failover resources". How can this be when I am barely using much CPU or RAM on either host?

Using Fusion 11.5 and Catalina 10.15.1 has disabled the Apple mouse from working

I had to upgrade to Fusion 11.5 to get my VM screen to no longer show as a black screen, but now the bluetooth mouse does not register to allow me to click to get the applications to work. Any help available?

Question to localaccounts on VCSA

Hia

 

I'm trying to create a local account on the VCSA that is able to run 'service-control --status' in the bash shell. While trying to do this I've come accross a few things I cant really explain.

 

1. I can create users without any problem using "localaccounts.user.add --username x --role y -- password" but I cant edit or delete them without getting an error that the user is not recognized.

     - localaccounts.user.list only lists the root user. Didn't change after setting the bash shell as default for my custom user.

     - I can see all the users I created in my VCSA Web Interface, but I cant edit or delete useres here.

2. None of the given roles, even superAdmin, seems to have the permissions to run service-control. Do I need a root shell to run those commands?

 

I'm clearly missing something, overread something.. hoping you can point me in the right direction. I'm running a VCSA V6.7 U3 Build 14367737.

みなさん、こんにちは。VMWareWorkStationProV15.5.0をWindows10Proで動かしています。

写真のようにゲストXPProマシンの応答が無くなってしまいました。ホスト側でのVMの強制終了しかないようなのですが、それをするとまたファイルを壊してしまい、起動できなくなるか心配です。このような時、どう対処したら良いのでしょうか？

強制終了してLockファイルを消してというしか方法がないのでしょうか？

FWIW...

 

In my case...

Workstation Pro 15.5 reported a new version (15.5.1) and I selected to run the update.


I was looking at a "Finished updating VMware Tools for Solaris" panel for some 5 minutes or so.

Nothing happened.

 

Then I discovered there was a setup panel, hidden behind others. Okay, I missed that one.

I clicked on [Next] and got a popup "Stop the following process or processes..."

Clicked [OK]

Got back to the setup panel.

After a few tries back and forth, I clicked on [Cancel]  and downloaded / used the full trial for the update from:

https://www.vmware.com/go/getworkstation-win

 

File: VMware-workstation-full-15.5.1-15018445.exe (541 MB)

 

It requires to enter the key.

 

Things went fine after that.

Password expiration notification using email for "administrator@vsphere.local"

Hi Teams,

 

How we can get an email notification vCenter Server of "administrator@vsphere.local" password expiration notification via email? I have set and email address on the 'administrator@vsphere.local' but not getting mail notification.It's only notification on VC bar once i'm login.

Update Manager cannot enter maintenance mode

Hi,
we use vSphere 6.7 and i try to patch my ESXI hosts with update manager.
My first try failed with an error that the ESXI hosts could not enter maintenance mode.
I enter maintenance mode manually and then it worked fine.
Is this a normal behaviour?
If not what can causes this?

Cannot add ESXi 6.7 hosts to cluster: A general system error occurred: Unable to push CA certificates and CRLs to host

I completed upgrading our vCenter Server appliance to 6.7U3.  After running into a number of issues doing that, I've finally got everything back normal.  The goal was to add new host hardware we have, which we installed ESXi 6.7 on.  Since we were running VCSA 6.5, I upgraded that to be able to create a new cluster for the new hosts to be managed by the 6.7 VCSA.

 

I created the new cluster, enabled DRS, enabled HA, then enabled and set EVC to the highest on the list (Intel Merom).  We're using hosts with Intel Xeon Gold 6143 CPUs.  I followed the wizard for adding new hosts, it seemed to connect and identify them with no issues, but when I start the adding by clicking finish, it fails immediately with the following error message:

 

A general system error occurred: Unable to push CA certificates and CRLs to host <hostname/IP>

 

I've tried using both the FQDN and IP, but get the same error.  We have not fully licensed these installations yet and they have whatever the default certificate is when you first install ESXi, which we did a few weeks ago.  The vCenter server is using a valid certificate issued by our enterprise CA.  What am I missing?

Suddenly with esxi5.5.0 build-2456374 Update2 (HP customization)

A reboot occurred.

I saw all the logs, but only after startup.

Is there a problem with this version that suddenly restarts?
