Passed VCP5-DCV

Happy to report that I passed my VCP5 a few weeks ago

 

Most of my day-to-day VMware usage is vCenter, ESXi, VCOPS etc so is a VCAP5-DCA the next logical step?  I quite fancy doing the VCAP5-DCD as I design and administer the vSphere deployments within my organisation and would like to develop my design skills and broaden my horizons a bit. 

I think it'd initially be more enthusiastic doing the DCD as it will probably all be fairly new material for me but then I think practicality wise, building on the fresh VCP knowledge that is still present in my head makes going for DCA first the more logical approach,

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Hello.

 

I was prepared VCA-DCV and VCA-WM. I took and passed them.

 

Now I've been prepared the VCA-Cloud to take the exam today. However the 50% discount is not have been applied when you check out (with the previous ones I don't have any problem).

 

Somebody with the same problem?

info required on Snapshot file

Dear team,

 

if we change the snapshot directory , all snapshot file ((config,  descriptor file and delta disk)) will be created in that directory or  created in VM home directory.

Question about virtual SQL server

Hi all -

 

I've been tasked with the troubleshooting of an issue with a SQL server vm and some packet loss. After reading some best practices documentation which points to using nic teaming on the VM that SQL server is installed on, I suggested this as a course of action - not necessarily a fix, but just something to at least do to create a baseline. Upon suggesting this, I was asked why 2x nics should be used and if there was any official documentation about this other than what is in the Best Practices PDF.

 

Honestly after looking i can't really find anything. I was also asked what aggregation protocols are available when using multiple nics and my eyes sort of glazed over. Thanks in advance for any insight!

CD Connection dimmed when creatinng a VM

Hi all,

I'm building a VM from in ISO picked up from my NFS storage, what happens when I do attach the ISO file the "connected" checkbox in the device status is greyed out. As a result the VM goes searching from the network (PXE Boot) and doesn't boot from the CD.

Does anybody know how to undimm ther "Connected" check box.

By the way my ESX is nested into vmware workstation and the host OS is Ubuntu 13.10.

Betrieb eines einzelnen vSphere-Hosts

Hallo zusammen,

 

ist es möglich einen einzelnen vSphere-Host mit Standardlizenz zu betreiben (nicht ESXi Free) ? Wir haben drei vSphere-Hosts die in einem vCenter Server integriert sind. Der hat allerdings nur die Foundation Lizenz, kann also nur maximal drei Hosts beherbergen. Wir müssen nun ein paar Replikationen mit Veeam auf einen vierten Server durchführen, und ich würde ungern eine neue vSphere-Lizenz und eine neue vCenter Server Lizenz beantragen... da VMware ja scheinbar die Unterstützung von Veeam für ESXi Free untersagt hat möchte ich die Kosten möglichst gering halten.

I increased hard drive space on a win svr 08 vm, by going to edit settings on the vm, I am not seeing the new space on the vm do I need to reboot the vm to see the space?

New to SRM

Hello Everyone

 

 

I am new to SRM, i have two vcenter servers one in site1 and the other in site2.

Vcenter Server in Site1 has two esxi servers connected to Storage1(FiberChannel)

Venter Server in Site2 has also two esxi servers connected to storage2(FiberChannel)

 

 

 

We have procured SRM,

Please guide in Designing SRM and also provide me Articles and any screenshots would be helpful.

I have vmware player installed,  I thought it was meant to have the ability to create snapshots but i cant see it in the options.  Is there something else i need to add?

Dear team,

 

please let me know below process is correct if we use VUM to upgrade host / cluster.

 

1)IMPORT THE ISO TO UPDATE MANAGER

2)CREATE A UPARDE BASELINE

3)ATTACH UPGRADE BASELINE TO CLUSTER / HOST

4) REMEDIATE (MIGRATE VMS TO OTHER HOST,PUT HOST INTO A MAITAINANCE MODE, UPGRADE HOST, REBOOT, EXIT MAITAINCE MODE = UPGRADE OTHER  ESX HOST IN  A CLUSTER)

Thinapp 5.0, removable disk and ghost drive letters

I'm using some simple applications packaged with Thinapp 5.0.  When a thinapped V5 app is running and I eject a removable disk such as usb flash disk, the drive letter remain assigned.

When a removable disk is re-inserted, the next available letter will be assigned..

 

The only way to reclaimed the "ghost" driver letters is to close any thinapped application..

 

Any clues?

vcloud connector 2.5 no networking

i deployd the vcloud connector appliance and setup static ip/mask/gw and on the ight vlan but there is no network on bootup. I tried changing it to dhcp also and it cannot get an ip. anyone have any problem with vcloud connector appliance 2.5?

ESXi 5.5 and ZFS do not play well together?

A couple of weeks ago I upgraded some HP DL380G6's from ESXi 5.1 to ESXi 5.5. One of those contains a Solaris 10 VM with a small ZFS volume with about 120GB of data and there are regular backups of that scheduled using "zfs send". With ESXi 5.1 the "zfs send" would complete in about an hour. With ESXi 5.5, it has not completed.

 

Attempting to do a "zfs send" manually results in the command getting to a certain point and then stopping. The "zfs send" has halted at 8GB, 20GB, 40GB, 60GB on different runs. Each time it starts to run into trouble, messages such as these show up in vmkernel.log:

When looking at the system performance from ESXi, all looks reasonable up until the point where performance disappears. On Solaris, the system has more than 2GB of free RAM and is doing a steady IO rate until this happens and IO throughput drops to zero.


Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

If so, how did you resolve the situation?

ESXi Host uploading bandwidth when all VMs are shut down?

I am fairly new to ESXi, but as of last night One of our Hosts started uploading over 300mbps of data. I have shut down all of the VMs on the host and the data is still uploading, the only way to get it to go away is when I shut down the Host. Can anyone explain what this could possibly be?

Cannot choose Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 after upgrading to ESXi 5.1

I have upgraded my hosts from ESXi 5.0 to ESXi 5.1 so I could have Win 8 and Win Server 2012 as guest OSes. However these are not listed in the guest OS list when I attempt to create a new VM.

I can only see the same list as when the server was ESXi 5.0. The latest OSes I can see are Win 7 and Win Server 2008 R2.

 

I am using VCenter Server 5.1. I can't figure out what I need to do to enable support for Win 8/2012. I will log a ticket if no-one can help here.

A general system error occured: uknown internal error Windows 7 VMware Converter Standalone

Hi,

When I have recently tried to convert a physical to a virtual using Vmware Converter Standalone, I've got this error: A general system error occured: uknown internal error.

  Given the fact that I am using Windows 7 I've got two active volumes: C and System Reserved volume. When I uncheck this System Reserved volume, volume C starts converting, but it stops at 98%, and that new virtual machine cannot be started due to the fact that bootmngr is missing. So, this error: A general system error occured: uknown internal error  appears when i check these two active volumes, and click finish to start converting- but the conversion doesn't start.

So can someone help me?

VMware Player, really poor performance.

Hello there,

 

I am getting really bad, unusable performance with any VMware client. I have tried combinations of:

VMware Player and VMware 10.

Operating Systems XP, Win 7,Linux Mint, among others.

 

All Guest VM's run incredibly Slow. Some of the issues include:

Very slow/laggy mouse movement

Takes at least 60 seconds for firefox, or any program to open.

Once a program is opened, the lag makes it just unusable.

 

I have tried installing the Guest VM to different drives, including a SSD drive.

I have tried resolutions from 800x600 up to Full Screen.

I have downloaded and installed the latest VMware tools.

I have searched and tried every possible solution i have found on google for the last 2 weeks.

I have checked the Bios to make sure Virtualization is on.

I have tried varying the amounts of Ram, and CPU's available to the Guest VM.

 

Current Specs:

i7 2600k

32g mem

SSD and a couple WD black 1tb drives

XFX 7950 DD Black Edition

 

I am at a loss. If anyone has any ideas what else i could check it would be greatly appreciated.

Cant install HTML access on Security Server

Hello,

 

I was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue.  We have a Security Server that we would like to install HTML access on.  The security server is Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit running View Connection Server 5.2.0.987719.  The Security Server is not a member of our domain and is in a DMZ.  When I attempt to run the installation I receive the following error, "1: Failed to communicate with LDAP server. Please check if the installer is running on a Connection Server machine. Contact your administrator for the support."


Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
