Logging into Blast Gateway using SSO?

$

Hi,

We've set-up a VMware View Security Server and are using a Juniper SA4500 (secure access) device to provide View HTML access as a remote access solution for our staff. Essentially the SA device handles 2-factor authentication then passes the session to the Security Server Blast Gateway, where our users can log into and select a pool to use.

The set-up works perfectly how it is at the moment, but one thing we'd like to improve on is SSO. Currently the user has to enter their credentials at the SA device login screen to authenticate there, then when they get passed to the Security Server they need to enter their credentials again to log in there. The SA device has some SSO support, and we've had it working with Citrix Xenapp previously using HTTP POST's, however I have not been able to figure out how to get it working with the View Blast connection.

Does anyone have any insight on whether it is possible to pass credentials to the Security Server to log users in, rather then requiring them to enter their credentials twice? We are using HTML Access only for our remote access solution due to internal limitations and policies, and we are required to have the SA device between the external connection and the Security Server so we can't just expose the external interface on the security server to the internet.

We are using View 5.2

Matt Keelan

Workstation 10 VM Guests exhibiting occasional periodic "flicker" or "jiggle"

$

I'm a fairly new user of vmware workstation 10.  I have a couple of guest machines, and both exhibit the following behavior very occasionally, but one does so with a frequency of once every sixty to ninety seconds.

Behavior:  The display flickers.... or perhaps a better word would be "jiggles"? What it looks like is that the entire content of the display (on the monitor) tries to move down maybe three or four pixels, and then moves back up in a very quick jerky move.  So far I have seen this only when in full screen display mode.  It isn't the end of the world, but it is kind of annoying and I would love to fix it.  I have no idea where to start.

My host machine is an HP Elitebook laptop running windows 8.  VMware is workstation 7.  The guest that shows this behavior more frequently is a windows 8 guest.  The guest that shows this behavior less frequently is a windows 7 guest.

Both guests were initially created by using the standalone tool to clone physical machines, which are now both properly activated and licensed.

In all other respects, they both seem to function wonderfully.

Thanks in advance....

powercli script to detect physical switch redundancy

Hi - I have a requirement to verify if the NICs connected to a vswitch have redundancy with respect to Physical switch level. Assuming CDP is on at the switch - I need a powercli script to parse thru each vswitch - check physcial switch name and make sure half # of NICs are connected to one switch and the other half of NICS to other switch ...let me know if such a thing is possible

thanks in advance ,

vCAC 6.0 - Windows 2008R2 with vCenter Customization - Never Completes in vCAC

$

I have a nice WIN2K8R2 blueprint that uses a vCenter customization to Sysprep, join domain, etc.  The VM looks great and every configuration is applied to the VM, but vCAC never receives notification that the customization is complete and stays in the "CustomizeMachine" state, so the VM never reaches available "Items" in vCAC; it can only be seen in Infrastructure > Managed Machines.  It fails after some time but again the VM is perfect, vCAC just doesn't classify it as a completed "Item".  Anyone else having issues with this?

Also, if I remove the Customization Specification from the WIN2K8R2 BP, it completes the build and moves it to available "Items", but will not apply the Network Profile IP configuration with VNXNET3 - it sets the WIN NIC to DHCP (Automatic), which isn't being used.  All my RHEL BP's are able to complete to available "Items" in vCAC with vCenter Customization.

How many VMs can you backup through one vCenter server?

$

Hi all,

we have a fairly large vSphere 5.0 environment with 2x vCenter servers, each with ca. 2000 VMs using about 600 TB of FC-attached SAN storage.

The majority (~90%) of these VMs are backed up with Symantec NetBackup 7.5 via the vStorage API (doing VMware snapshots through vCenter).

While the environment was growing the backup environment also grew by adding more and more media servers to it. But we are still using only one vCenter server per location.

Since a while we are having trouble with a growing number of backup job failures: It looks like the backup servers' connections to vCenter sometimes fail or time out in the middle of a job.

And the vCenter servers (VMs with 8 vCPUs and 32 GB RAM) appear to be heavily loaded (esp. CPU, but also RAM).

My question here is: Does this happen, because we have reached an architectural limit of such kind of backup setup? Or in other words: Do we need to add additional vCenter servers and spread hosts and VMs among them?

We expect further growth of this environment and need to take a decision quickly. I cannot provide any details about how the backups are done right now. I'd just like to hear some opinions from people who run comparable environments and also use snapshot based backups. Should one vCenter server be able to handle backups of more than 2000 VMs? Is it worth trying to scale up the one vCenter server?

Thanks for any comments!

Andreas

View Composer error recomposing desktops after upgrading from View 5.0 to 5.3

$

We just upgraded from View 5.0 to 5.3. At the same time we also upgraded from vSphere 5.0 to 5.5. We updated our golden images with the new VM tools, upgraded from hardware version 8 to version 10,  and upgraded the View Agent. We then recomposed the persistent desktops, and when we did so, we got the following error on all of the desktops:

View Composer Fault: Unexpected VC fault from View

Composer (Unknown) - Unknown - <fault xsi:type="DeltaDiskFormatNotSupported"

xmlns="urn:internalvim25" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

    <deltaDiskFormat>seSparseFormat</deltaDiskFormat>

  </fault> for VM VDI-W7-022

We noticed that when we looked at the desktops in vCenter, it appeared that the desktop no longer had an OS as it was sitting at what looked like a PXE screen. Our floating desktops recomposed fine, and when we deleted the persistent desktops that had errors and let it create fresh ones, that worked fine too. Recomposing the freshly-created desktops also worked fine. We can't find much information on this error, and we're wondering if anyone else has seen it and knows what the problem is. We are thinking of deleting the desktops and starting fresh, but we're looking for some information on this if anyone has any.

Thanks!

Installing DB2 10.1 Windows 7 64bit 'hangs' at DAS

$

Hi all,

This is going to be a strange one, but please be assured this is no Holloween joke!

I have two MacBook Pro's.  They both have Mavericks 10.9, Fusion 6.0.1, and 16G of RAM. The first MacBook Pro is Early 2011, the second is Late 2013.  I also have a single VMware image that is Windows 7 64bit allocated with 2 cores and 3G of RAM.  Accelerated 3D graphics is 'Off'.

When I install DB2 ESE 10.1 on the Early 2011, all is good.

However, when I try the same install on the same VMware image (copied over, of course) on the Late 2013 MacBook Pro, the installer 'hangs' when installing DB2 Administration Server (DAS).  Just hangs.  Nothing in the logs.

I've 'upgraded' to Hardware version 10.

What in the world could prevent DB2 from installing in this VMware image on the Late 2013 MacBook Pro?

Thanks!

Robert

SSLHandshake exception while using vsphere sdk on vcenter 5.5

Hello

I am attempting to register an extension with vCenter server 5.5. In doing so I am starting to see SSL Handshake exception (com.sun.xml.internal.ws.client.ClientTransportException: HTTP transport error: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake).

I have called appropriate method to trust all certificates etc. The same code works when I try to register the same extension on vCenter 5.1.

Appreciate any pointers..

Thanks

Unable to delete file

$

I have a .vswp file from a long-dead View desktop that I am unable to delete through the datastore browser. All ESXi servers hosting View have been rebooted at least once. The View desktop that the vswp file belonged to does not exist any more. I am able to rename the file and/or move it to another directory but it refuses to let me delete it. When I try to delete it, I get the following error:

"Cannot delete file [datastore] Bad_vswp/Old.vswp"

Any ideas? I thought if there were a lock on it, it would not let me rename or move, but it does. I simply can't delete it.

ESX Deployment Appliance (EDA) is a small and easy to use appliance

that makes deploying ESX servers a breeze. It has a very intuitive

web-interface that can configure and deploy dozens of ESX servers in

minutes. It has a script-builder that will allow any admin to create

%post-scripts that will do most anything one needs to get the ESX hosts

up and running! Even if deploying with RDP/Altiris or the UDA, this

script-builder can help setting those up very quickly.

automaticaly OS Installation on VM & more !

Hello professionals

I have an issue, what hopefully can be solved by you.

Task is :

Autmatic OS istallation on the VM, the OS have to do some Jobs ( testings ).

After the Job, the VM Need to do it again - means installing the OS again  and so on.

I just saw that ESIx supports the scripts, which maybe helpful in Installation.

But i now just wondering, if it's possible to let the OS do a Job and after this, the Vm reinstall the OS automaticaly again.

It's a Problem, cause i didn't find a script solution for that.

Is there a possible solution, you might know ?

It's just for testing cases on OS with the Vm, but im struggling in reinstallation the OS after the Job is finished.

Let me know if you need more background knowledge, thanks for any help

Hi Pros!!..i run into strange Issue...need some help for rescue.

I have a windows server 2008 r2 sp1 VM. Suddenly the network card got red mark on it. The Network card is present in the Network Connections folder. The driver is installed properly, It saves IP Address/DNS address, but will not save the gateway. If i run via DHCP , it won't receive any address.. matter of fact the network card is not present in Network and Sharing center. It Seems that Windows is not able to see it while the driver is there in Device Manager and properly installed..

Did the following.

1. Remove all the previous NICs left over from Show hidden devices as well as Registry... Didn't worked- next reboot again guids were there..

2. Remove the Network and change to a New type to vmxnet3 via Vcenter- Didn't worked...

3. IPconfig /all won't show any IPs etc except the computer name.

4. Nothing been installed recently, except patches, which i have remove manually, but didn't worked as well

5. Reset the winsock - didn't worked.

O.S  windows server 2008 r2 sp1

Tools update on the server.

Vsphere 5.0 current update.

This is my first time posting here, Please move it to correct spot if it's not already..thanks

Any help will be much appreciated.
